Why You Should NEVER Hire an Ex-Car Salesperson to Be Your Car Buying Advocate (And Who to Trust Instead!)

🚨 Never Hire an Ex-Car Salesperson to Be Your Car Buying Advocate

(Here’s Why That’s a Terrible Idea)

Buying a car shouldn’t feel like a scam.

But let’s be honest—it often does.

Before I get into what our clients say about others in the car business—and why they prefer working with us—let me say this:

The car industry is full of incredibly talented people. I sincerely mean that. I've met many of them and purchased vehicles from them.

Many of them work long hours, train constantly, and genuinely want to make the industry better.

I respect that deeply, and I love partnering with those kinds of professionals.

The sad part is that over 70% of the sales end of this industry is not honest, they've been train to manipulate through various gurus and training programs like Cardone University and Andy Elliot.

Look them up on YouTube, see how they train people and you'll understand and possibly be disgusted.

When you see them, look at them, don't they look slimy and oily as can be?

Some trainers are asking men to remove their shirts during training. Something is really wrong here...

In many ways it's not their fault.

You come into an industry clean and ready to help but within a few months you are no longer a good quality person, you're after the money and you'll do it at all costs.

I've interviewed hundreds of sales people and they will tell you they same. Its a jungle out there in these dealership and many owners approve of all of it as long as the machine keeps printing money.

If you're a sales person or sales manager or GM, you know exactly what I'm talking about. 🤮

That's why if you go to GlassDoor.com, and check out dealership employment reviews, you'll often read about terrible practices, profit first attitudes and poor behavior from sales people and management.

Check for yourself. Don't take my word for it. They are toxic environments to say the least and many thrive in it. 🤡

Can you imaging the type of human that must be? They thrived in that swamp?

Again, many dealerships are awesome and when we rate them they are honest and kind and genuinely care.

Don't get me started about customer reviews on Google about how they were treated in dealerships.

So why have things gotten so bad?

That’s because the car sales industry has spent decades building a reputation for pressure, lies, and overpriced deals.

So here’s the deal: if you’re looking for help with your next car purchase, never—and we mean NEVER—hire a former car salesperson to be your car buying advocate unless they are at least 5 years removed.

Then maybe the have changed and their insanity cured.

Don't ever thrust the ones who claim "I was the best!"

The best??? In that industry! No thank you!

Why?

Because car salespeople aren't trained to help you.

They’re trained to help themselves. It's ingrained in the DNA.

🤯 The Ugly Truth About Car Salespeople (Even the “Retired” Ones)

Let’s get straight to it. The car sales industry ranks among the most distrusted jobs in America. Don’t take our word for it:

  • A 2023 Gallup Poll ranked car salespeople near the very bottom for honesty and ethics—only 1 in 10 Americans trust them.

  • Consumers report car dealerships as one of the most stressful places to spend money, according to J.D. Power and Cox Automotive.

  • Over 70% of buyers say they feel misled or pressured during the car buying process.

So when a former salesperson says, “Don’t worry, I’m on your side now,” it’s like hearing a fox say he’s protecting the hen house. 🦊🚫

Even if they say they’ve changed, they still carry the same tricks, tactics, and dealership mindset that cost buyers like you thousands of dollars.

🎭 What “Former” Car Salespeople Still Do (And Why That Hurts You)

Here’s how these recently added to the car business graveyard ex-salespeople operate as “car buying helpers”:

  • 🧢 Still talk like a dealer: They’ll throw around confusing terms like “dealer holdback” and “invoice pricing” like it’s a magic trick. It's easy to catch if you just listen to them.

  • 🤝 Still friends with their old dealer buddies: Yep, they’re probably sending business to the same managers they used to work for.

  • 💰 Still focused on money—not you: These folks know how to make the numbers look good while stacking fees you don’t notice until it’s too late.

They may sound smooth. They may “know the lingo.”

But guess what?

They’re not professionally trained advocates.

They’re just salespeople in new clothes that don't fit them well.
