⚡️The Ultimate A-to-Z Car Sales and Dealership Slang & Terminology Glossary (Deal Guard Edition , So You Know It's Awesome!)
Hey there! This is not a list for you to learn and call up dealership and start spitting out these terms like Eminem does in a rap song!
You'll irritate the dealership folk and nobody will think you're serious and it will hurt your deal.
Instead, use this as a resource. So when you deal with car people, and they. throw a few of these at you, you're ready!
This glossary makes car lingo easy so you don’t get played at the dealership or lost in a car convo.
From “ABS” to “ZEV,” we’ve translated the car biz into plain English with laughs, emojis, and no B.S.
I was told this is the best list ever created! I'm not sure it is but I put down everything I've learned along the way!
S let’s freakin goooo!!!!! 🚗💨
Have fun and oh, if I missed any come find me on the socials and tell me about it! I'll shout you out and put it into the list!
🅰️ A Terms
⚡️Aging Inventory – Cars that have sat on the lot too long and are costing the dealer floorplan interest. 🙀
⚡️ABS (Anti-lock Brakes)
That shaky feeling when you slam the brakes? That’s ABS doing its job — stopping you from skidding and helping you steer while braking. It's like a seatbelt for your tires. 🛑🦶
⚡️Addendum Sticker
Extra sticker = extra charges 💸
Dealers use this to tack on "market adjustment" or fluff add-ons like pinstripes and nitrogen air. 🙄 You can fight it. And you should.
⚡️Aftermarket
Stuff added after the car left the factory. Spoilers, rims, stereos, underglow lights 💡 — if you added it yourself, it’s aftermarket.
⚡️APR (Annual Percentage Rate)
The yearly interest rate on your car loan. Lower = better. 📉
If the dealer says 7.2% and your bank says 4.9% — go with the bank. Duh.
⚡️Access Cab / Double Cab / Crew Cab – Different truck body styles and door configurations. 👯♀️
⚡️AWD (All-Wheel Drive)
Power goes to all four wheels 🛞
Great for rain, snow, and traction. It’s always on — unlike 4WD that you flip on and off.
⚡️ALLOCATION 💥
Refers to how a manufacturer divides up its new-car output among dealerships. In other words, it’s the factory deciding how many of each model (and trim) each dealer can order. Allocation essentially caps what dealers can get in stock.
⚡️AD CAR
A bait-and-switch special. These are the cars you see in ads at crazy low prices—usually with a million conditions. There’s probably only one on the lot (if any). Proceed with caution.
⚡️Airbag Recall – Especially Takata. Tons of used cars still have this unresolved—important for buyers. 😰
⚡️Add On Sticker
A separate sticker dealers use to show markups or accessories. Different from Monroney. Typically garbage add ons to pad profits. Have them removed or walk away. 🥶
⚡️ACV (Actual Cash Value)
What a dealer appraises your trade-in for, wholesale. Not retail. 🤖
⚡️As Is
A car sold with zero warranty. You own every problem the second you drive away. 💣

⚡️Back-End Gross – Profits from F&I, warranties, and finance—not from selling the car itself. 😳

Someone who refers you to a dealership and gets paid for it 🐶💰
